Virginia Giuffre’s Family Says Ex-Prince Andrew Is ‘Sweating Now’ Following His Release from Custody
The former Prince Andrew famously said in a 2019 interview that he couldn’t perspire after Giuffre claimed he “sweated all over me” while they were in a nightclub in the early 2000s

Virginia Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law have spoken out following the former Prince Andrew’s release from police custody after his arrest on Feb. 19

Virginia Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law are reacting to the former Prince Andrew’s release from custody following his arrest and that photo where he was seen for the first time.
Appearing on CNN on Thursday, Feb. 19, hours after Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested, Sky and Amanda Roberts were asked their thoughts on seeing such a “shocked” Andrew in the image by anchor Kaitlin Collins.
As previously reported by PEOPLE, Andrew was arrested on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 19, his 66th birthday, and was released from police custody after 11 hours. He was taken into custody for allegations of misconduct in public office, amid reports that police were investigating claims he shared confidential information while serving as a trade envoy.
“I imagine he would be shocked,” Amanda said of the photo. “I think one of the things Virginia had stated so clearly is he thought it was his entitlement and he had been protected and shielded by his royalty and his position for so long. I don’t believe that he even knew this day would come, that he would actually be arrested.”
“When I see him in that position of him sweating, which we know apparently at one period in time he couldn’t do, he’s sweating now … I think he’s sweating now,” added Amanda.

Collins noted that Amanda was referring to a claim Andrew made in a 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight — where he discussed his relationship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and allegations that he had sex with Giuffre when she was 17 years old — that he couldn’t sweat.
Andrew was reacting to statements made by Virginia in court papers and a BBC Panorama interview in which the late mother of three claimed that she went dancing with Andrew at a nightclub in London in the early 2000s and he was “sweating all over me.”
The former Duke of York said he couldn’t have “sweated profusely” on the dance floor because at the time he was suffering from a medical condition that made it impossible for him to perspire.
“I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenalin in the Falkland’s War when I was shot at and I simply … it was almost impossible for me to sweat,’ Andrew said during the interview. “It’s only because I have done a number of things in the recent past that I am starting to be able to do that again.”
In a separate interview with the BBC Newsnight on Thursday, Sky and Amanda also became emotional as they discussed Andrew’s arrest.
Admitting the news was a “shock,” Amanda said, “We celebrated in that moment and we were just awestruck, then the wave of emotions hits you because usually we can call her [Virginia] and scream with her on the phone and jump up and down with…”
Amanda went on to break down in tears, before continuing, “And just tell her how proud of her we are of her tenacity and courage … if it wasn’t for Virginia none of this would have happened and none of this would have been uncovered.”
“We’re all of the emotions right now,” added Amanda as Sky also looked visibly emotional and appeared to wipe a tear from his eye.

“Against all odds she kept pushing forwards,” Sky continued, adding that Andrew’s arrest was “vindication” for his sister, who died by suicide at the age of 41 in April 2025.
Sky also took the opportunity to thank King Charles and the royal family for “standing behind survivors.”
“I will continue to commend the King for the actions that he’s taken,” Sky said. “We have yet to see that from our own government here … To hear the King come out and acknowledge the fact … that the law should be followed … and if it is found that he did indeed share secret information from his own government, then that’s a crime that is punishable by life … we would ask that he holds him to the highest extent of the law, even though it is his brother.”
Giuffre, one of the most outspoken accusers of convicted sex offenders Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, died at a farm in an area outside of Perth, Australia, where she had lived for several years before her death, her family previously announced.

King Charles released a statement via Buckingham Palace on Thursday following his brother’s arrest.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” Charles said in the statement. “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation,” the statement continued. “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
