Ryan Reynolds revealed he still has his original Deadpool suit as a keepsake. He also recalled when his kids discovered the same suit “lurking” in their basement.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the MCU’s first R-rated film, significantly narrowing its target audience demographic. This is in keeping with previous Deadpool films and their unashamedly mature themes. In an interview with People, Ryan Reynolds confirmed he’s so attached to Deadpool that he keeps the original suit at home just for kicks. He added that he hangs the suit in the worst (or best) place possible: downstairs in their basement. He thought this was harmless until one of his kids stumbled on the prop silhouetted in the dark; Reynolds described the incident as a real-life teen slasher flick like Scream and Halloween.

“I have the original suit…like a mold of my body downstairs in the basement,” Reynolds confirmed. “And it was just sort of silhouetted one night and one of my kids went down there [and] screamed bloody murder. I ran down there, because I forgot it was down there, and I screamed bloody murder. So yeah no, everybody’s pretty well damaged.” The comment stemmed from the topic of imaginary friends like the creatures from IF; Reynolds hinted that his kids might have imaginary friends, a thought he finds mildly terrifying.
Deadpool As An Imaginary Friend
Reynolds said he often interrupts one of his children as she’s talking to her imaginary friend. “My daughter Betty, she has a very vivid imagination, so there’s always somebody standing behind me and I turn around quickly like a horror movie and I realize no, it’s just Harvey from the old movie Harvey. It’s a 6 ft 5 rabbit,” he explained. When asked if he’s relieved his children don’t have Deadpool as an imaginary friend, Reynolds said that even if that was the case, the “basement incident” definitely ruined that friendship.
IF was released to mixed critical reviews despite much anticipation and a star-studded voice cast. Director John Krasinski said he made the film for his kids since they weren’t allowed to see A Quiet Place. He praised co-star and co-producer Ryan Reynolds for his performance, which was notably restrained compared to his Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds has yet to comment on IF‘s underwhelming performance at the box office, but he acknowledged in the People interview that he’s learned how to turn anxiety into a positive.
“People who have anxiety are constantly thinking into the future,” he asserted. “You’re constantly, ‘What if this happens? What if that happens?’ You’re always telling yourself stories. So when we’re shooting Deadpool & Wolverine, I’m not just shooting the movie, I’m also sitting in the audience as a cautious critic going, ‘I don’t like that. I don’t buy that.’ So anxiety creates that ecosystem of awareness that I wouldn’t otherwise [have].” Co-star Hugh Jackman revealed he struggled with the same thoughts about the movie; the actor originally thought Logan was his last film as Wolverine, but he reconsidered after seeing the first Deadpool film.
