Did you catch it?
Are you obsessed with Ransom Canyon yet? Netflix’s newest hit show about a small town of ranchers dealing with trauma, loss, and, of course, love, is quickly becoming the show to watch. It’s a fun western romance that is so loved up, even Ransom Cayon star Minka Kelly’s real life boyfriend has a cameo.
That’s right, Minka, who plays budding concert pianist/bar owner Quinn in the show, recruited her longtime boyfriend, Dan Reynolds for a Ransom Canyon cameo in episode 9, “About Forever,” and the result is pretty hilarious.
Dan, who you might recognize as the frontman of Imagine Dragons (yes, really), plays Billy, a buyer of Staten’s, played by Josh Duhamel, who is being poached by Davis, played by Eoin Macken. In the scene, Billy and Davis are talking business at a high school pep rally (for reasons unknown) when Staten interrupts, prompting a very awkward showdown. Because Billy and Staten aren’t just fighting about clients and ranches, they’re fighting for Quinn’s heart.
So, to recap: Minka’s real life boyfriend made a cameo alongside her two on-screen love interests. I hope they send this screenshot out as this year’s holiday card.

According to Minka the cameo was spurred by her boyfriend visiting her on set. “Everyone, all the producers and writers, just naturally fell in love with him, like you do,” Minka told People. “It’s easy to love Dan.” After the visit, production asked her if Dan would be interested in the role of Billy. “And he was such a good sport and down to play,” Minka recalled.
According to the star, who has been linked to Dan since 2022, the singer was “surprisingly nervous” to make his big acting debut. But Josh told People that after a few takes, the nerves seemed to dissipate. “He’s an amazingly talented dude on so many different fronts,” he said. “But it takes one or two or three, maybe a couple scenes, and all those nerves go away.” Now that he’s dipped his toe in the acting pool, is there a chance Dan comes back for Ransom Canyon season 2? “Maybe we’ll have him back,” Josh said.
