Claws Out? Emma Corrin’s Shocking Request for Deadpool & Wolverine Shot Down by Marvel

Cassandra Nova in Deadpool 3

Deadpool & Wolverine star Emma Corrin will be integral to the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, portraying the antagonistic Cassandra Nova. However, Corrin says Marvel Studios shot down one request during preparations to play the villainous mutant.

Speaking with British GQ, Corrin revealed Marvel rejected the request for a personal trainer to get into tip-top shape to play Cassandra in Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Corrin, Marvel deemed it unnecessary as no major transformation needed to happen for the role. “This is funny because I did ask if I could have a personal trainer and they said no,” Corrin said. “They said I don’t have to undergo any physical training. I was so ready to undergo a huge transformation but they were like, ‘That’s absolutely not required of you. Please stand down.’ I tried.”

Corrin will introduce Cassandra to the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine, playing Charles Xavier’s unpredictable twin sister who is equally charming as she is deadly. Corrin recently revealed taking inspiration from Christoph Waltz’s Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds and Gene Wilder for Cassandra, making the character as mischievous, charming and unhinged as possible. Deadpool & Wolverine marks a superhero film debut for the award-winning actor, best known for portraying Princess Diana of Wales in Netflix’s The Crown and will feature in the upcoming Nosferatu remake.

“I was so ready to undergo a huge transformation but they were like, ‘That’s absolutely not required of you. Please stand down.’ I tried.”

Cassandra won’t be the only baddie appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, as long-time X-Men nemesis Sabertooth will also appear in the Phase Five movie, as revealed by the movie’s latest trailer. The upcoming tentpole will further introduce characters from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise as the mutants gradually become fixtures throughout the MCU ahead of the cinematic universe’s long-rumored film about the titular group.

Deadpool & Wolverine will see Corrin’s villain battle Ryan Reynolds’ “Merc With a Mouth” and Hugh Jackman’s claw-wielding badass in one of 2024’s most highly anticipated movies. The movie has been hailed as a potential game-changer for the MCU, with Reynolds and Jackman’s title characters summoned on a Multiverse-altering mission by the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

Also featured in Deadpool & Wolverine are Jennifer Garner, Stefan Kapičić, Karan Soni and Morena Baccarin, as the film marks the first R-rated feature-length entry in MCU history. Early box-office projections have the latest Deadpool installment setting records, aiming to take Dune: Part Two‘s title as the highest-grossing flick released this year.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on Jul. 26.
