In the books, it is never just about gossip; it is Penelope’s way of sharing her voice while critiquing the ton. When she finally gives up Lady Whistledown, she does it for herself—Penelope is now confident enough to live boldly without hiding behind a pen name. So, she becomes a fiction writer and begins to craft novels.

Bridgerton Season 3 Sets Up A Major Change From The Books

The Lady Whistledown Reveals Are Drastically Different

Bridgerton season 3 creates a critical difference in Penelope’s narrative: the Lady Whistledown reveal occurs much earlier than it does in the book. In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope is 28 years old. However, she is 19 in the show, almost a decade younger than her book counterpart. Her purpose for Lady Whistledown also differs between the show and the book. In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope strictly uses Lady Whistledown to self-express without damaging people. Penelope has similar intentions in the show, but when she clashes with people like Marina or Eloise, she exposes them for petty reasons.
