Trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine have confirmed a major appearance from Sabretooth, a significant rival of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine from Fox’s initial X-Men trilogy. However, I’d still really like to see the other Sabretooth make an appearance in the upcoming MCU as well. After all, there were two different actors to play the mutant villain on-screen, and the other one was just as exciting and dynamic.

As seen in trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson’s Deadpool will need Wolverine’s help to save his reality, resulting in a multiversal adventure of epic proportions including encounters with Loki’s Time Variance Authority, and what will likely be an army of cameos from both the MCU and Fox’s X-Men universe. Some of these cameos have already been revealed, such as the return of Sabretooth played by Tyler Mane in Deadpool & Wolverine (the first actor to play Victor Creed in the very first X-Men film). However, that doesn’t mean Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth from 2011’s X-Men Origins couldn’t be featured as well.

I Still Wish Wolverine Could Have A Rematch With Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth

X-Men Origins Wasn’t All Bad

Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber as Wolverine and Sabretooth

Although X-Men Origins: Wolverine is often cited as one of the worst X-Men films to have ever been produced by Fox, I’m personally of the opinion that there are still elements to be appreciated. This particularly includes the early relationship and eventual rivalry between Jackman’s Logan and Schreiber’s Victor. Revealed to be half-brothers as a unique twist and deviation from their comics’ rivalry, their shared blood helped explain their similar power sets.

Likewise, Sabretooth eventually helping Wolverine kill Ryan Reynolds’ massively controversial Weapon XI version of Deadpool by the movie’s end resulted in some incredibly interesting dimensions and greater nuance to their complex relationship going forward as both brothers and rivals. This was certainly aided by Schreiber’s performance as Logan’s highly aggressive older brother who carried far less restraint than Wolverine. As exciting as Mane’s Sabretooth truly is, I’d still very much like to see Schreiber’s earlier version make an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as well.

A Multiverse Of Possibilities Within The Void

Thankfully, the multiverse provides an easy means of debuting Schreiber’s Sabretooth right alongside Mane’s in Deadpool & Wolverine. Facing off in the multiversal catch-all that is Loki’s Void at the End of Time where variants from other realities go when they’re “pruned” by the TVA, Mane and Schreiber’s respective Sabretooths could simply be variants from separate timelines, allowing both to have their turn to rematch Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the upcoming MCU movie. It would certainly be a nice homage to the true beginnings of live-action Deadpool if Schreiber were to reunite with Reynolds and Jackman. A brief cameo would certainly be enough for me.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release in theaters on July 26th.
