Nicola Coughlan was looking stunning in a black Erdem gown for the Dublin screening of the hit series at the Light House cinema on Thursday

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has brushed off remarks she’s become a sex symbol since starring in the Netflix series.

The Galway native plays the lead role in the Netflix show’s new series, which sees her play some steamy scenes with co-star Luke Newton.

But speaking to Dublin Live, Nicola said she doesn’t see herself as a sex symbol. She said: “I don’t think any Irish woman considers themselves a sex symbol.

“But it’s so fun to be on a show like this that celebrates sex in such a positive way. And women’s pleasure and the joy in it and also, like the second half of the season, refocused on intimacy in a really beautiful way.

“And the humour and the closeness in it and I just it’s not been done before because the characters these characters have had history. I love I really love the second half I think it was very special.”

Nicola arrived looking stunning in a black Erdem gown for the Dublin screening of the hit series at the Light House cinema. She was joined by her co-star Luke Newton, who wore a suit by Simone Rocha.

Luke, who plays Colin, opened up his steamy carriage steam with Nicola. “I took it as a challenge. I was like ‘Yeah, it’s time to get ready for this’. And, yeah, I mean, we’re in it together. You know, we’ve known each other five years now.

“Yeah, just support each other because it is like, it is like a scary thing, to be honest. Particularly like with our crew. We’ve known them for five years, so they’re almost like family. So then to have to take your clothes off is that weird thing of like my mum watching this episode. It’s just like weird.”
