The beloved Viscount and Viscountess makes their triumphant return in the third season of the Netflix hit, after their steamy and angsty enemies-to-lovers arc in season 2

Season 3 of Bridgerton is mainly focused on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s friends-to-lovers arc. But fans do get the chance to finally witness season 2 leads Kate and Anthony Bridgerton enjoy their marital bliss.

Last season’s enemies-to-lovers arc between the characters played by Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey was riddled with steamy tension as they juggled their duty and true desires for each other. And now that the drama is behind them, both Kate and Anthony have a new outlook on life — even deciding to extend their honeymoon in favor of choosing one another over their duty as Viscount and Viscountess.

Bridgerton season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell further explained to Business Insider that Kate and Anthony “are two characters who spent so long playing by the rules all last season, and for them to break the rules in the name of love, I think is very fitting.”

It’s not just the couple, though, that are embracing a more playful and lighthearted light — it’s also their costumes.

In Bridgerton season 2, Kate and Anthony’s clothes played an integral role in showing the audience the change in both of these characters as they fell in love. So for season 3, lead costume designer John Glaser made sure that was reflected as well.

As Glaser explained to Fashionista, Kate especially goes through her “own wardrobe transformation” as she and Anthony return from their Honeymoon in India.

“[The Indian references] become more obvious,” said Glaser. “We also wanted to show that she had nothing to hide. She’s coming back from home, she’s married, she’s a strong woman and she’s not going to hide her heritage.”

Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) also quickly spotted touches of embroidery in Anthony’s costuming as well, reflecting Kate and Anthony’s union.

The couple’s marital bliss was fully reflected in Kate and Anthony’s costuming and set design for season 3, too

In the Bridgerton set tour for Architectural Digest, production designer Alison Gartshore shared Kate and Anthony’s new space, which features the classic Bridgerton blues mixed in with warmer cream tones for Kate. “It’s Bridgerton meets India,” she said.  Gartshore also shared that they specifically included South Asian inspired detailing across the sets including “elephants, ivory, [and] lots of brass” throughout the room to represent Kate becoming a part of the family.

Kate’s study includes “scenes from India,” including a painting of horses to represent her love for horse riding, and a special portrait of her and the Viscount’s beloved dog Newton.

In an interview with Deadline in 2022, Simone Ashley shared that “Kate and Anthony are just getting started. In Season 2, there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end.”

The first part of Bridgerton season 3 is now streaming on Netflix, and part 2 drops on June 13.
