The incredibly popular Bridgerton season 3 has made it clear that one of the show’s characters deserves her own spinoff. The Bridgerton series has become one of Netflix’s most successful projects, making up 33% of the streaming giant’s most-watched programs at the time of writing. With such a remarkable record and Bridgerton season 3’s talented cast, it is no surprise that the streaming service wants to capitalize on the show’s success by adding another spinoff.

While Netflix hasn’t confirmed that there will be another Bridgerton spinoff, Queen Charlotte’s success showed audiences that there is a need for a show that should focus on other characters. Fortunately, there seems to be a huge audience interest in more Bridgerton shows, especially because of the great reviews that Bridgerton season 3 is receiving. While Bridgerton is full of great characters, two in particular offer an intriguing story following the Queen Charlotte template.

Queen Charlotte Made A Violet Bridgerton Spinoff Possible

Violet Bridgerton Deserves A Spinoff

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s success helped raise significant interest in a Violet Bridgerton spinoff. The Bridgerton series has mostly focused on Violet’s role as the matriarch in the family, but Queen Charlotte showed there is more to her than just her vested interest in finding her eight children a love match. Violet Bridgerton is a multi-layered character with an interesting backstory that deserves further exploration. Her relationship with Edmund and the aftermath of his death could be something a Violet Bridgerton spinoff could delve into.

Although a Violet Bridgerton spinoff is an intriguing possibility, Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes still isn’t sure if it will ever happen. During the London premiere of Queen Charlotte in Leicester Square, Rhimes stated, “There’s no plan to explore anybody in particular… Although, in writing it I got very interested in Violet’s story. So, we’ll see,” (via Hello). While Rhimes agrees that Violet is a compelling character, she did not write Queen Charlotte with the intention of veering off into other characters’ stories. Nevertheless, her acknowledgment that Violet has potential suggests that her own spinoff would be a natural next step.

Bridgerton’s Violet Romance Teases Further Set Up Another Spinoff

Violet Bridgerton Might Have A New Love

Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis) and Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) in Bridgerton season 3 Part 1

Violet Brigerton’s love match with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton has been the talk of the show since it first aired. Unfortunately, her love story was cut short when Edmund died from a bee sting, leaving Violet to raise their children alone. A Violet Bridgerton spinoff could delve into the couple’s love story and give audiences a glimpse of what it is about their relationship that made Violet put it on a pedestal. Despite the interest in Violet and Edmund’s relationship, Julia Quinn does not currently intend to write a book about them.

After Edmund died, Violet had no intention of focusing on any romantic pursuits. However, it seems like she is ready to love again, since she confided in Lady Danbury that she might be looking for another companion. Bridgerton season 3 has introduced a new character, Lady Danbury’s brother, Lord Marcus Anderson, and signs point to him being Violet’s new love interest. It’s too early to tell if Lord Anderson will indeed be Violet’s new love match, but with a Violet Bridgerton spinoff now a possibility, audiences might get an opportunity to see their romance blossom.

Violet Has One Of Bridgerton’s Most Important (& Unique) Stories

She Connects So Many Characters

Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton in Bridgerton season 2, episode 7

One reason a Violet Bridgerton spinoff is so tempting is that she has one of the most compelling and influential character arcs in the entire franchise. On a purely practical level, her journey sets up the entire Bridgerton dynasty, shaping the lives of all her children, and influencing the action throughout the main Bridgerton series. She has consistently shown herself to be a master at managing societal expectations, so seeing her assume this role for the first time could be fascinating. Understanding Violet’s story is central to understanding each Bridgerton sibling’s outlook, since their mother knows firsthand how complex marriage, relationships, and society can be.

Violet’s experience after the death of her husband would be a genuinely new direction for the show – one that could elevate the whole franchise and increase its emotional impact.

Beyond this, however, there is the emotional aspect of Violet Bridgerton’s story. Although Queen Charlotte demonstrated the sometimes painful consequences of love, Violet Bridgerton’s journey is ultimately defined by tragedy. For all the drama that takes place behind closed doors and under the hostile glare of the ton, Bridgerton is fundamentally an uplifting melodrama that rarely inflicts too much anguish on its protagonists for too long. By contrast, Violet’s experience after the death of her husband would be a genuinely new direction for the show – one that could elevate the whole franchise and increase its emotional impact.

If A Violet Spinoff Doesn’t Happen, Bridgerton Really Only Has One Other Choice

The Next Spinoff Should Continue The Queen Charlotte Template

Considering her unique position in the wider Bridgerton story, the emotional resonance of her relationship history, and her ability to tie together multiple generations from across the franchise, Violet Bridgerton is the obvious candidate for a spinoff. However, if producers decide to go in another direction, there is a second suitable candidate for their own show. Much as Violet has a colorful background, tapping into many of Bridgerton‘s most engaging themes, Lady Danbury could be just as compelling a source of drama.
