“Breaking the Royal Unwritten Rules” – Meghan Markle Shocks by Straightforwardly Refusing a Traditional Ritual That Kate Never Did, Reveals Why the Palace Is Unsettled

Meghan Markle has been accused of breaching royal protocol in a number of ways during her brief time in the Royal Family, with an expert now claiming it was a sign of a ‘rebellion’

A Royal expert has delved into numerous alleged protocol breaches by Meghan Markle during her brief stint as a royal, suggesting these incidents hinted at her eventual departure. The Duchess of Sussex joined the Royal Family in 2018 through marriage but left less than two years later in early 2020, following her and Prince Harry’s decision to relocate to the US.

The Sussexes’ dramatic exit resulted in a lingering rift with the royals. A Royal expert suggests that signs of “a conscious, committed rebellion on her part” were evident from the early stages of Meghan’s Royal career.

Richard Eden highlighted over a dozen fashion-related protocol breaches by the Duchess during her two-year tenure with the Firm on his YouTube show, Reading the Royals.

The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor leveled various accusations against the Duchess, noting how her style choices consistently deviated from those of other Royal women, including the late Queen Elizabeth and Kate, the Princess of Wales, reports the Express.

Among the breaches were Meghan’s refusal to wear tights, her choice of off-the-shoulder attire for official Royal events, and her decision to wear non-British designers to a British fashion awards ceremony.

Mr. Eden stated: “Given the volume of headlines that Meghan created, people forget how brief her royal tenure was. It spanned a mere 22 months, from her marriage in May 2018 to her acrimonious departure in March 2020.

“In that time, there were more than a dozen examples of her breaking the rules – about one every two months.”

A Royal expert pointed out Meghan’s first protocol breach during her official engagement photo shoot, where she donned a sheer gown, considered a “no-no” for daytime wear by royals.

He stated: “This was Meghan declaring, when she barely had her foot in the palace door, that she would be treating royal protocol as ‘guidance only’.”

The expert also highlighted the £56,000 price tag of Meghan’s dress, contrasting it with Princess Kate’s engagement dress, which cost £385.

According to the diary editor, another protocol misstep occurred at Wimbledon in 2018, when Meghan chose white wide-leg trousers over a dress, unlike Kate.

Mr Eden criticized Meghan, stating that she should have adhered to the usual Royal Box rules and, like Catherine, worn skirts or dresses for the occasion.

The expert noted that Meghan’s “most crass sartorial gesture” happened again in 2018, when she opted for a gown by French label Givenchy at the British Fashion Awards.

He also criticized her choice of Dior for Prince Archie’s christening a year later.

He stated: “Traditionally, a royal mother wears a piece by a British designer for every christening.”

Mr Eden compared this to Kate, who consistently chose British designers, particularly Alexander McQueen, for all of her children’s christenings.

The Royal expert concluded: “There are numerous other examples of similar protocol breaches. And what they suggest to me is a conscious, committed rebellion on her part.

“The signs were there from the beginning that Meghan refused to accept the contract: the deal that says being a royal comes with undoubted benefits, but that there’s a price to be paid.

“Namely, you must completely dedicate your life to public service. Your individual brand and personality must always come second to the reputation of the Firm and traditions it represents.”
