Timeline in the case of missing Air Force General William Neil McCasland
The search for a retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland was reported missing on Feb. 27, 2026 and questions are still swirling about what led to his disappearance.
During his tenure in the Air Force, McCasland, 68, oversaw classified space weapons programs and served as head of research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. That facility has long been rumored to house fragments of extraterrestrial debris from a UFO crash in Roswell, N.M.

Feb. 27, 2026 – William Neil McCasland reported missing
Police say McCasland briefly interacts with a handyman around 10 a.m. before his wife leaves to head off to an appointment.
McCasland’s wife reports him missing after returning home from her appointment.
“His phone, prescription glasses and wearable devices were located at the residence,” Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities also recovered hiking boots and a .38 caliber revolver at McCasland’s home.

Mar. 1-5, 2026 – Police issue a silver alert
Police issued a Silver Alert for McCasland’s disappearance due to potential risk. Authorities ask nearby residents to review footage from Feb. 27-28 and submit any relevant material.
Mar. 6, 2026 – No evidence of foul play
Police say they haven’t uncovered any evidence of foul play but are still considering all possible scenarios.
Mar. 7, 2026 – Police discover sweatshirt
Authorities announce they’ve discovered a gray U.S. Air Force sweatshirt a little over a mile east of McCasland’s home. No blood was detected, and deputies aren’t sure if it belonged to him, authorities added.
