While Blake Lively has been dealing with considerable backlash over her recent behavior surrounding the controversial film It Ends With Us, the actress is still managing to promote another project—her new haircare line, Blake Brown.

In an interview with Vogue about the beauty brand, Lively made a surprising revelation about how her own hair: She apparently doesn’t use conditioner.

“I don’t know anyone who uses conditioner in my industry,” Lively claimed.

“It’s not that people in the entertainment industry are gifted with better hair,” the mother-of-four continued. “We’re using a different hair system than the process promoted to the mass market.”

According to Lively, the “system” in question involves purchasing two sets of shampoo and hair masks—one for hydration and one for strengthening. Next, switch off between the sets every time you shower, using the shampoo as you normally would, then applying a hair mask for at least 30 seconds.

Lively explained that she started using the “masking-only technique” after sustaining damage to her hair on her first job.

“It was just so damaged and destroyed,” she said. “A hairstylist explained to me that this process could save it. If you give hair strength, you give it foundation, structure, and stability. But if you only give it strength, it’s going to become brittle and hard. So it also needs moisture and elasticity. But if you give it too much, it’ll break.”

“People think of hair masks as more of a specialty product or a one-off treatment. But I use it every single time like I use conditioner,” Lively continued.

“I live by the principle that if you take from something, you have to give back to it. And that applies to my hair, too,” she added. “So if I take from it by styling it or really wearing on it, then I give back to it.”

The star also said that the name “Blake Brown” is a “version” of her own moniker.

“My dad took my mom’s last name—Lively came from my mom and Brown came from my father,” she revealed.
