While set photos from back in 2023 already caught a mysterious filmed sequence involving Jenna Ortega’s character, this scene has still been hidden from Beetlejuice 2’s promotional materials so far. Shortly after its official announcement in May 2023, the highly-anticipated Tim Burton sequel Beetlejuice 2 began filming that summer. During production, some unofficial behind-the-scenes set photos were shared that gave first looks at the return of Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and the introduction of Jenna Ortega as her daughter Astrid Deetz.
Given their outfits in these captured moments, some important scenes were teased for Beetlejuice 2’s cast and characters – but one still remains a mystery. One of the scenes caught in set photos was a look at Winona Ryder clad in black for a funeral at the Winter River graveyard. The trailer for Beetlejuice 2 then confirmed the death of Jeffrey Jones’ Charles Deetz, contextualizing that the set photos were of Lydia and the Deetz family at his funeral. However, there’s another shocking set photo of Jenna Ortega’s character that still hasn’t been explained by Beetlejuice 2’s trailers.
Beetlejuice 2’s Trailer Doesn’t Reference Jenna Ortega’s Wedding Tease
Set photos revealed Jenna Ortega in a wedding scene

The original teaser and official trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice have yet to give context to the set photos of Jenna Ortega’s Astrid Ortega at a wedding. While Astrid is wearing what appears to be a wedding dress in the afterlife during Beetlejuice 2’s trailer, it’s different from the gown in the set photos. Additionally, Astrid’s outfit in the trailer seems to be part of a Halloween costume given the film’s setting on that holiday, whereas the set photos actually featured her smiling in a proper wedding dress next to a man in a tuxedo in the realm of the living.

It’s unclear who the man is in the set photos with Jenna Ortega, but it originally led to theories that her character was set up to repeat Beetlejuice and Lydia’s twisted wedding scene from the original movie. However, Beetlejuice 2 reveals that Michael Keaton’s titular character is still hell-bent on marrying Lydia, with one teased sequence even showing her back in her iconic red wedding dress. As such, it seems like the photos of Astrid in the wedding dress could be for a real, living-people-only marriage after the chaos with Beetlejuice is over.
Arthur Conti Is Still Expected To Play Astrid’s Boyfriend In Beetlejuice 2
Astrid is teased to have a romance in Beetlejuice 2

There’s still a lot of mystery hanging around the cast and characters of Beetlejuice 2, though many unanswered questions about certain actors’ roles were answered in the official trailer. For instance, Danny DeVito’s cameo was confirmed as an afterlife janitor, Monica Bellucci’s Delores was introduced as Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe was officially launched as afterlife detective and former B-movie action star Wolf Jackson. One actor confirmed for the cast whose role hasn’t been disclosed, however, is Arthur Conti.
Known for a brief appearance in House of the Dragon season 1 as the queen’s page, Conti joined the cast of Beetlejuice 2 in a yet-to-be-revealed role. However, it seems likely that he’ll be featured in the land of the living, as he’s expected to be playing the local teen with whom Astrid is teased to begin a romance. If so, it could end up being Arthur Conti’s character who Jenna Ortega’s Astrid was seen marrying in Beetlejuice 2’s wedding set photos.
