Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd was reportedly questioned – and cleared – by producers of the hit Netflix series following a complaint from a woman who auditioned for the show.
Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd was reportedly questioned and cleared by producers following a complaint about his alleged behaviour.
The 35-year-old comedian wrote and starred in the hit Netflix series, which depicts struggling comic Donny Dunn who is stalked and harassed by Martha Scott (played by Jessica Gunning). The seven-part series based on true events has become one of the most watched shows on the streaming service.
But Gadd’s alleged behaviour appeared to come under fire when an actor who was in the running to play a part in the programme took to social media. Reece Lyons claimed she felt “hurt” after a romance with the comedian, who has been cleared of wrongdoing.
A post from Lyon on X, which didn’t name Gadd, alleged that he “conflated a work opportunity with a dating dynamic”. Deadline claims they’ve verified that Gadd was the person she was referring to.
Lyons said that, after meeting Gadd: “He began to tell me about his upcoming Netflix show that he had written. The role in question was that of his ex-girlfriend, a trans woman. I told him I was interested in auditioning and asked him to get in touch with my agent.”
Lyons alleged that during the audition process, she cooled things off with Gadd and that he asked her if she wanted to resume things romantically. Lyons said she felt “conflicted” about this, worried it would affect her chances of being in the show.
The role of Teri went to Generation star Nava Mau, and Gadd allegedly told Lyons that bosses wanted as more “established” actor to play the role. She claims she asked Gadd where they stood personally and that he told her: “It’s not going to work.
“You’re too confrontational for me.” According to Deadline, Clerkenwell Films, the show’s production company, investigated Gadd’s professional conduct after Lyon’s post on social media went viral last month.
It was reportedly found the writer didn’t act unprofessionally and that casting decisions for the show weren’t affected. Daily Star has contacted Gadd for comment.
