As The Boys fans wait patiently for the fifth and final season, they still have something else to look forward to in the meantime – Gen V season 2.

The second season of the spin-off show is deep into production, and a first-look teaser was recently shown to the audience at San Diego Comic-Con.

In the trailer, Marie, Emma and Jordan were seen being brought back to Godolkin University, and being welcomed by Cate.

Footage included a voice-over from Hamish Linklater’s new dean, promising bigger and better things for the new year. He was then seen on screen alongside Sam and Cate, while a cameo of Chace Crawford’s The Deep was also seen.

Of course, fans saw Sam and Cate recently, as they both made appearances in The Boys season 4. In contrast, we haven’t had an update on the others at all, since the season 1 finale saw them stuck in a mysterious hospital-like setting.

Thankfully, fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out how that cliffhanger is resolved – and there could be more on the way beyond that too.

When asked about the future of The Boys franchise, in light of the main series coming to an end, showrunner Eric Kripke told Variety: “I think they [spin-offs] can and should continue.

“The Boys story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other, and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long.

“So, what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander [story] is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe.

“And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories. So, hopefully Gen V continues, hopefully a couple other things we have in development continue.”

But when will Gen V season 2 arrive on Prime Video? Here’s everything you need to know.

Will there be a Gen V season 2?

Yes! Gen V has officially been renewed for season 2. Its renewal came before the end of season 1, with the cast sharing the good news on social media.

In a video posted to Twitter, which was recently rebranded as X, the cast were seen screaming with the caption reading: “Attention all God U students, Gen V is officially coming back for season 2.”

Gen V season 2 release date speculation

Season 2’s release date is not confirmed just yet, but we do know that the season is in production.

It was initially meant to start filming much earlier, but was delayed following the tragic death of star Chance Perdomo.

The most recent update was got was in July 2024, when Amazon MGM Studios exec Vernon Sander said: “We love Gen V. Season 2 is turning out to be really strong.

“They’ve had their hardships, obviously, with the loss of Chance, but ultimately, I think all fans of The Boys are really going to love that second season and stay tuned on whether there’s more.

“We are in production now. We’ve been in production for several weeks now, probably a month or two, and I’m hoping that will be out next year.”

That suggests that it will be on screens sometime in 2025.
