Virgin River is far from over.

Since its premiere in 2019, fans have fallen head over heels for the fictional Northern California town and its beloved residents — particularly nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

The couple finally tied the knot in season 6, and this season, which premiered on Netflix on March 12, finds them starting to build a life and family together. But before the drama’s seventh season finished filming, the streamer renewed it for season 8.

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum in July 2025.

Will there be a season 8 of Virgin River?

Yes, there will be an eighth season of Virgin River. Netflix greenlit the show for another installment in July 2025, making it both the streamer’s longest-running current original scripted series and its longest-running English-language drama series.

Smith briefly touched on the drama’s longevity in a November 2023 interview with Deadline, saying that “as long as these characters are living, there are always going to be stories to tell.”

What will season 8 of Virgin River be about?

The official logline for season 8 of Virgin River hasn’t been released. However, the storyline will likely continue to follow Mel and Jack’s drive to expand their family after experiencing a miscarriage and a stillbirth in previous seasons.

“I think it’s just that sort of tug that she has to have a family,” Breckenridge told Swooon in December 2024. “It’s just really ever present with her. It’s been there from the beginning … I’m excited to watch her become a mother.”

In season 7, Jack and Mel finally welcome a child after adopting Marley’s (Rachel Drance) baby. The process isn’t without its ups and downs, as Marley’s ex wanted to keep the baby throughout the season, and Marley discovered that the baby has a heart issue — and the only doctor who can treat it is Mel’s former coworker and ex-boyfriend, Eli (Austin Nichols).

However, in the end, Mel helps Marley through delivery before she jumps into an ambulance with her newborn, Jack and Eli to bring the baby to the NICU.

“I’m hoping that at some point they get to some kind of normalcy, but I am excited to see Mel as a mother,” Breckenridge told Tudum of season 7’s finale. “I think we’ve anticipated that moment for far too long.”

Who is in the cast of Virgin River season 8?

Though nothing has been confirmed, the primary cast of Virgin River is expected to return for the show’s eighth installment.

In addition to Breckenridge, Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, that includes Colin Lawrence as John “Preacher” Middleton, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan, Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Kai Bradbury as Denny Cutler and Kandyse McClure as Kaia Bryant.

However, two main cast members are confirmed not to be returning for season 8. Marco Grazzini, who played Mike Valenzuela, a cop investigating Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) disappearance throughout the season, will not return, and neither will Hammersley, Smith confirmed to Deadline.

When will season 8 of Virgin River be released?

An official release date for season 8 of Virgin River hasn’t been announced, but it is likely that it will be released in 2027, as filming is expected to start in 2026.
