The Summer I Turned Pretty fans are eagerly awaiting a highly anticipated movie, and one lead star has shared an exciting new update.

Adapted from the beloved books by Jenny Han, the teen drama has become a firm favourite for Prime Video viewers as it follows Belly Conklin (played by Lola Tung) as she navigates her first love, heartbreak and growing independence during summer time at a beach house, Cousins Beach. The Summer I Turned Pretty recently aired its third and final season last summer, but it wasn’t long before the series creator confirmed the story was not over, as a new film would be made following Belly’s story from where the series left off.

In a statement at the time, creator and author Jenny Han confirmed there was “another big milestone” left for the main character. She said: “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.

“I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Now, an exciting update has been shared as Lola Tung has confirmed Han has started working on ideas for the premise. Speaking to to Variety, the star said: “I’ve talked to Jenny a lot about ideas. I’m excited to read the script.”

When asked about a treatment that was reportedly circulating, Tung joked: “No one sent it to me” as she had her say on where she believes Belly and Conrad Fisher (played by Christopher Brine) would end up.

She added: “They love each other so much”, before admitting she sees the couple in a long distance relationship with Belly living in Paris.

In December, Jenny Han shared an update for fans as she said: “I just wrote it.” Speaking at The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit, she also confirmed that the movie will not be dropping that Christmas like many viewers suspected.

Fans will remember Season 3 ended with Belly finally choosing to pursue a relationship with Conrad after calling off her wedding to his brother Jeremiah (played by Gavin Casalegno).

Now, fans continue to speculate as to what the film may be about, with official details currently unknown. On a Reddit thread, one person said: “For me, that’s why the idea of the movie is so exciting. Jenny has said she’s had so much fun writing it, and that she wants to show Belly and Conrad being in love.

“I’m sure there will be some conflict of sorts to get everyone back to Cousins, but I don’t think it will be related to them as a couple.”

Another suggested: “It’s part of what’s exciting about it! Jenny gets to surprise us with a new plot because the old one was kind of wrapped up. Obviously we’re gonna get the wedding, at least we better.”

A third wondered: “I think Jenny Han is as much of a fan as we are of these books and wants to show us Conrad and Belly as a couple (she even said this!). I think this movie is going to be exactly what we need!”
