💥BREAKOUT HOOK: Jessica Chastain and rising star Carter Faith collide in Heartland — the country movie thriller that’s about to shake Netflix to its core.
A story of small-town secrets, haunting betrayals, and a dark past that refuses to stay buried, Heartland promises edge-of-your-seat drama with a Southern twist. Coming soon only on Netflix.
Netflix has officially set Heartland, a new mystery thriller starring Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain, with filming scheduled for a two-month shoot starting at the end of September in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennessee.
The film is directed and co-written by Shana Feste, best known for dramas, thrillers, and even more romance-heavy movies in titles like Country Strong and Run Sweetheart Run. Feste also co-wrote the screenplay, with production coming from Chernin Entertainment in partnership with Sandbox Entertainment.
In Heartland, Chastain plays Misty Jones, a former country star who reluctantly comes out of seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her niece, a rising young musician. Taking on the role of the missing niece is country singer Carter Faith, who makes her acting debut. As Misty’s search drags her deep into Nashville’s darker corners, she is forced to confront old wounds while uncovering a world where nothing, and no one, is as it seems. Starring alongside them is Oscar-nominee John Hawkes, whose role remains under wraps.
The producing team includes Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for Chernin Entertainment, Jason Owen for Sandbox Entertainment, Randall Poster, and Tracy Cook. Jeff Valeri is serving as line producer, with Jason Graham on board as production manager. Casting is being overseen by Richard Hicks, whose previous credits span numerous acclaimed film and television projects.
Fresh from receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jessica Chastain continues a busy year, headlining Apple TV+’s limited series The Savant, where she plays a covert investigator targeting extremist online networks. Her career has included acclaimed performances in Zero Dark Thirty, Molly’s Game, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and Interstellar.
John Hawkes, meanwhile, is known for his Oscar-nominated role in The Sessions, as well as standout turns in Winter’s Bone, Martha Marcy May Marlene, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He will next be seen in Amazon’s series Criminal. Carter Faith, already a charting country music star, is stepping into acting for the first time, bringing her Nashville roots directly into the story’s setting.
Production on Heartland begins September 22 and will run through at least November 30, 2025.
