An Update On Landman Season 3’s Surprisingly Close Release Date

Landman

This article was published on 1/18 and republished on 1/20.
Landman season 2 just ended last night with a big finale, and Tommy and the crew got up to their usual shenanigans, leading to some potentially explosive events for season 3. Now, we may know something about season 3’s release date, and it’s surprisingly close.
To start, yes, Landman was renewed for season 3 long before this finale, back in December 2025, when it had a huge premiere on Paramount Plus. Landman season 2 was the most-watched premiere in Paramount Plus history with 9.2 million global views in two days, increasing viewership by 262% over the season 1 premiere. So yeah, it got renewed.
Luckily for Paramount Plus, Taylor Sheridan and crew have also done something rare in the current streaming landscape: they have made the show a yearly release. If that trend continues, we have a possible release date slash window for Landman season 3, based on past data.
Landman season 1 started filming in February 2024 and aired on November 17, 2024.
Landman season 2 started filming in April 2025 and aired almost exactly a year later on November 16, 2025.
So forget an estimate, we might be able to get this within a few days, given that production is reportedly following the same schedule. Sam Elliott, recently added to the cast as Tommy’s father, said that production should start in April or May of 2026. If it’s April, you can bet we’ll almost certainly hit that mid-November release date.

Landman
Paramount PlusShows that are released yearly are few and far between, but if you can find one that’s both A) a hit and B) able to hit a tight production schedule, that’s striking it rich. HBO Max has recently done this with The Pitt, where 15-episode seasons are supposed to air every year in January like clockwork. Landman? It seems like that’s going to be November.
It’s not yet clear how Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount for a pricey deal at NBCUniversal will affect Landman in the long term, but that is not happening until 2029. Depending on the date, that’s two or three more seasons of Landman in the bag, a show that he has written every single episode of, in addition to managing about five other projects. The man is superhuman.
I would best describe Landman as utterly ridiculous, pretty trashy (god, his wife and daughter’s storylines), and…totally watchable. I know this show isn’t good in the traditional sense, but I cannot stop watching it every week for some reason. It compels me, somehow, and I will be back for more next November, where we will see if it can set new records once again.
Update (1/20): I’ve heard from a few people wondering about the status of season 3 of Landman given that Billy Bob Thornton is leaving the show. Well, Billy Bob Thornton is definitely not leaving the show.
This report spread so far and wide that Thornton was recently forced to make an actual statement about it to USA Today.
“AI-generated crap,” Thornton called it. “There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show,” says Thornton. “They have nothing to do with reality.”
Where this report came from is something of a mystery, as I cannot find any actual websites stating that, AI or otherwise. My guess is social media, as especially on Facebook, I see practically infinite amounts of fake entertainment “news” on there daily, cranked out by spammy AI accounts purely for engagement. And people believe it too! By the thousand! It’s insane.
We are now fully in an era where you have to check with a half dozen reputable sources to actually know if a news item is real. If you’re reading it on a spam website you’ve never heard of, or from a random account on Facebook or Instagram, be very, very skeptical.
