🔥 Multiple vehicles were reduced to ashes as blaze raged on Mackworth Road — but what was found in the back seat left everyone scratching their heads
Firefighters found a body after tackling a fire involving several vehicles near a funfair in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to Mackworth Road in Porthcawl, Wales, which runs along Coney Beach Amusement Park and ends on the beach.
It’s understood the fire broke out a few dozen yards from the beachfront just before 3am.
A police statement said: ‘Once the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel discovered a deceased person inside one of the vehicles.
‘Formal identification has yet to be carried out and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
‘Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.’

The area remains cordoned off while investigations continue.
The fairground is set to close in October after more than a century entertaining families from Porthcawl and the surrounding area.
Locals describe it as a ‘staple’ and ‘a core part of Porthcawl’s identity’ but dwindling visitor numbers forced the owners to sell up.
The site will be demolished to make way for a 1,100-home residential development.
The owners described the heartbreaking decision as marking the ‘end of an era’ on Facebook. ‘For over 100 years we and other showmen and their families have lived and worked in Porthcawl helping to make it a busy seaside destination’, they wrote.
‘We will miss it greatly and while we are sad to see our time here come to an end we are forever grateful to have had the opportunity to have been part of so many generations of families lives, young and old.
‘Thank you for sharing our love of “all the fun of the fair” and the legacy that Coney Beach leaves.’
