One fan of The Last of Us got a nice surprise when, at the Library Bar in the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, they noticed a Cordyceps-inspired drink had been added to the menu. There are many ghastly creatures in Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, including bloaters, runners, and the fearsome rat king, and although they come in different shapes and sizes, they are all infected with the dreaded Cordyceps virus.
The Last of Us is frequently a top pick for fans of gaming’s best survival horror titles. Filled with an incredible narrative and complex characters, Naughty Dog also expertly crafted the most hideous monsters in gaming. The Cordyceps brain infection is a parasitic fungal infection that devastated humanity in the Last of Us series, turning people into walking nightmares covered in sprouting mushrooms.
While players are happy that the grotesque Cordyceps fungus devastation that wiped out the world in The Last of Us is a work of fiction, one fan of the series recently stumbled across a drink inspired by the frightful disease in real life. In a recent post, Reddit user RobinDCross explained that while they were visiting the Library Bar in the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, they were surprised to see a Last of Us-themed drink on the bar’s menu. The drink in question was concocted using Don Julio Añejo tequila, Hennessy VS Cognac, Torres brandy, Verjus, extra dry prosecco, edible Morchella mushrooms, maple syrup, and a snip of a candy cap mushroom for its aromatic qualities.
The Last of Us Inspired Cocktail Found at a Canadian Bar
While this Last of Us-inspired cocktail might not be for everyone, a Clicker-inspired Last of Us cake revealed in early 2023 quickly became legendary amongst the game’s community. The Clicker cake was made from chocolate, icing, and fondant that sculpted the creature’s features, and in finishing off the horrendous creation, red food coloring was added to simulate blood pouring from its mouth.
Players have been anxious to hear more about the potential next game in the Last of Us series, and thankfully, a new job listing hints at The Last of Us Part 3 being in the works. Naughty Dog is also rumored to be working on a mysterious first-person IP, said to be unlike anything the studio has done before.
