Tom Burke as Praetorian Jack in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

As Prague production on Blade Runner 2099 continues through the end of the year, more details about the project have been released to press. Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi have joined the cast of the epic Prime Video sci-fi series in recurring roles, Deadline reports this morning.

Earlier this year, Burke featured as Praetorian Jack in George Miller‘s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy. He’s also recently starred in The Wonder with Florence Pugh, Living opposite Bill Nighy, and memorably portrayed Orson Welles in David Fincher‘s Mank.

The actor joins the cast of Blade Runner 2099 after wrapping director Steven Soderbergh‘s Black Bag, starring Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan, earlier this year. Burke is also no stranger to the Prague: he previously filmed the TV series The Musketeers and The Lazarus Effect in the Czech capital.

Italian actor Lombardi, meanwhile, recently appeared in a featured role in the Netflix series Ripley, Steven Zaillian‘s adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novels starring Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning. He previously starred in Paolo Sorrentino‘s HBO series The Young Pope, alongside Jude Law and Diane Keaton, and its follow-up The New Pope, starring Law and John Malkovich.

Plot and character details for Blade Runner 2099 are being kept under wraps, but Burke and Lombardi are two of the bigger names to be confirmed after series stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. Dimitri Abold, Katelyn Rose Downey, Lewis Gribben, and Daniel Rigby also star in the series, with Sheila Atim, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, and Matthew Needham in recurring roles.

Blade Runner 2099 follows the events of Ridley Scott‘s original Blade Runner, which was set in 2019, and director Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049. Scott is returning to the series in a producer role, with Silka Luisa (Halo) serving as showrunner and Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun) directing the first two episodes. Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, who starred in the earlier films, have not been confirmed for roles in the series.

Given Blade Runner 2099‘s futuristic setting, the majority of the series’ production in Prague will take place at Barrandov Studio, though some location work in the Czech capital will also take place. Earlier this month, scenes were filmed in Prague’s city center by the Main Train Station and at the Karlín end of the Žižkov Tunnel.

Production on Blade Runner 2099 in Prague began at the end of June, and will run through December. The series is the largest production taking place in the Czech capital this year, and one of the largest ever, with Barrandov Studio almost entirely occupied through the end of the year to accommodate the shoot.
