Patricio and Patricky Pitbull

PFL star Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire is already set for a make-or-break regular season clash this weekend, but he and his brother have eyes on some even bigger fights.

The legendary former Bellator champion, and his brother who has held belts at two weights, are two of the most renowned fighters never to have stepped foot in the UFC. Patricio just defended his featherweight belt against Jeremy Stephens, while Patricky faces Bruno Miranda this Friday.

Patricky is currently focused on Miranda, and even traveled to Salt Lake City three weeks early to acclimatise to the altitude. But he also has his eyes on a major boxing match, just like his brother who is calling for an all-Brazilian clash with Jose Aldo on the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard.

Patricky Pitbull calls out Jeremy Stephens and Anthony Pettis for boxing fights

Both Pitbull brothers are renowned for their striking, with Patricky even picking up the ‘King of KO’ moniker during his run in Bellator. They have both held lightweight gold in the promotion, and are keen to try their hand at boxing at least once before hanging up the gloves.

“I like the PFL show because you can fight in PFL, Bellator, Rizin – I love it in Japan – and also boxing,” he told Bloody Elbow in an exclusive chat. “It’s perfect. A long time ago in Bellator we talked about a boxing fight.

“Conor McGregor made a great showing against the GOAT from the boxing [Floyd Mayweather], and PFL can make sure this happens. Francis Ngannou is an example, Anthony Pettis has fought… Me against Anthony Pettis is a perfect show.

“Jeremy Stephens as well, I think I have good hands to make a boxing fight. We train a lot of boxing, we train with the guys from the Olympic national team [in Brazil] and we have a good coach training us for these fights.”

Patricky Pitbull makes the case for brother Patricio to fight Jose Aldo

After beating Stephens in Belfast back in March, Patricio feared that perhaps the July 20 date for Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson in July was a little early.

However, with the bout being pushed back and now the undercard needing some new blood, he wants to face Jose Aldo on that date.

“It is a good idea,” he continued. “Patricio against Jose Aldo is a very, very good idea. One day, the same night we could both fight.”

Patricky Pitbull has enlisted brother Patricio as a coach for latest PFL outing

Ahead of his fight with Miranda which decides his fate in the PFL Global Season, Pitbull has pulled out all of the stops. First moving his camp to Salt Lake, and now making his brother Patricio one of his main coaches as he enlists one of the sport’s greats.

Head trainer Eric Albarracin noted that the pair had been working together, with Patricio forcing him not to go easy in his sessions. “We’ve been here for three weeks and I can tell you, I’ve never seen him do a camp with his brother as a coach/sparring partner,” Albarracin noted.

“Putting them two together is probably the best idea, I’ve never seen them more focused, his brother doesn’t let him slack on anything where sometimes a coach might or a sparring partner. He won’t let him and that’s what I like about these last three weeks. I’ve never seen Patricky more ready.”

It is the first time that they have been sparring against one another during a camp. But he wouldn’t be drawn on who got the better of their sessions, with Albarracin noting that they may air some footage on YouTube.
