Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Chloe Watson Dransfield in Leeds are exploring whether jealousy triggered the confrontation that left her seriously injured and ultimately dead on the streets of Austhorpe. Three teenagers have appeared in court charged with her murder, while neighbours and witnesses describe how a seemingly ordinary teenage gathering escalated rapidly — with the argument suddenly intensifying when someone mentioned a boy’s name.
Chloe, from Gomersal in Kirklees, was found unconscious with multiple stab wounds, reportedly to her back, on Kennerleigh Avenue shortly before 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Neighbours, including 64-year-old Wayne Mallows, performed CPR for around 10 minutes while a phone lay nearby with ambulance control still speaking on loudspeaker. Despite their desperate efforts, she died a short time later in hospital.

Chloe was remembered by her grieving family as their “beautiful princess” — a vibrant, bubbly, confident, and family-oriented girl whose presence lit up every room. Her mother’s emotional tribute captured the depth of the loss: “My beautiful princess Chloe. I cannot put into words how I feel that you are not here with me. You are my life, my world, my best friend… You are stunning, confident, loyal, honest and my family-orientated princess.” Her father added: “We miss every single thing about her. She was beautiful, full of joy and had a wonderfully cheeky personality.” Chloe was a pupil at BBG Academy in Birkenshaw and had recently secured a college placement in hair and beauty. She leaves behind two younger sisters, Courtney and Cienna, and a brother, Connor.

Court Proceedings
On Tuesday, March 31, Kayla Smith, 18, a self-employed beautician from Kennerleigh Avenue, Archie Rycroft, 19, from Middleton Park Road, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court. All three were charged jointly with Chloe’s murder. They appeared in grey prison-issued tracksuits, with parents and family members in the public gallery visibly emotional and sobbing.
Smith and Rycroft were remanded into custody, while the 17-year-old was placed in secure accommodation. Their next hearing is scheduled at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, April 2. An 18-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder, while two others (an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy) have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
