Two students were killed and several others were “seriously” injured after a Kenwood Middle School bus crashed during a field trip in carroll county tn on Friday, March 28, officials said. The Kenwood Middle School bus crash on Highway 70 involved the bus, a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) dump truck and a Chevrolet Trailblazer, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol during a press briefing.

While the cause of the Kenwood Middle School bus crash investigation remains ongoing, officials noted that “it doesn’t appear that TDOT had any contributing factors to the crash.”

“I want to speak directly to the families of the students that we lost today: There are no adequate words we can use to ease the pain that you’re feeling right now,” Major Travis Plotzer with the highway patrol said at a news conference about the tragic deaths. “This is a parent’s worst nightmare.”

“We are heartbroken over the loss of life,” Gov. Bill Lee said in an X post, adding that he asked that all Tennesseans pray for those ‘impacted’ by the tragic bus crash in Carrol County.

At the news conference, a spokesman for an ambulance company said nine air ambulance helicopters were requested to the scene, with seven used to transport patients. He said he could not share patient information.

Authorities confirmed that the bus had 25 students and five adults on board. The dump truck carried two adults, while one adult was inside the Trailblazer, Plotzer said.

Kenwood Middle School is located in Clarksville in Montgomery County, northeast of carroll county tn, where the crash occurred. The Tennessee Highway Patrol urged motorists in a facebook post to “avoid the area” and seek alternate routes as emergency personnel continued response operations.
