Surveillance footage at LaGuardia Airport shows the moment an airplane crashed into a fire truck that was attempting to cross the runway. The pilot and co-pilot of the Jazz Aviation flight, which was operating on behalf of Air Canada, were killed in the crash.

The footage shows the fire truck traveling toward the runway with emergency lights on after an air traffic controller cleared them to travel across. Just as the truck gets onto the runway, the airplane comes into the frame at a high speed and collides with the truck.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Sunday as the fire truck was responding to another incident at the airport as the plane was landing. There were 72 passengers and crew of the plane, 40 of whom were hospitalized, according to the Associated Press. A pair of Port Authority employees traveling in the fire truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Audio recordings of the incident reveal the air traffic controller ordered the truck to stop after initially giving clearance, but the truck continued onto the runway regardless.

The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. LaGuardia Airport closed for several hours Monday, diverting all air traffic, before reopening Monday afternoon.
