3 Netflix Shows You Need to Binge This Week (#3 Is a Tense Crime Thriller) Stargate SG-1

After both recently delivering high-profile fourth seasons, the Shonda Rhimes-created period drama Bridgerton and the hit legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer, based on the books by Michael Connelly, have tumbled down the U.S. streaming charts. In their place, hit reality series Love is Blind and a new stand-up special from Katt Williams have emerged as the current #1 and #2. However, this is all about to change when, in just 10 days, Bridgerton returns for Season 4, Part 2. To keep you entertained whilst you wait for the return to Regency era London, here are three shows you should watch on Netflix this week.

After the first season became available to stream on Netflix this past Sunday, NBC’s underrated crime procedural, The Hunting Party, is already the third-most-watched show on the platform in the U.S. The series follows the assembling of a team of elite special agents, tasked with finding and capturing the nation’s worst serial killers following their escape from a secret prison hidden underneath the Wyoming countryside.

Proving popular enough to earn a second-season renewal whilst many other NBC shows faced cancellation, The Hunting Party might not be flawless, but it is thoroughly entertaining. At its heart is a team of investigators you’ll immediately fall in love with, led by former FBI profiler Rebecca ‘Bex’ Henderson (Melissa Roxburgh). Join the rest of the country in watching The Hunting Party this week.

For some sci-fi magic sprinkled on your week, look no further than the beloved Stargate SG-1. Starring Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel Jack O’Neil, the series follows his band of soldiers and scientists as they travel via portals to a vast array of planets, looking to solve conflicts and forge unlikely relationships.

A direct continuation of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s 1994 film, Stargate, few sci-fi shows can come close to Stargate SG-1. Detailed in its lore but never alienating for new audiences, the show earned nine Primetime Emmy nominations during its decade-long run, thanks in no small part to a perfectly cast ensemble that includes Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Don S. Davis.

When it comes to modern comedies, few are funnier than Derry Girls. The series follows five teenagers as they navigate their Catholic girls’ secondary school in early 1990s Northern Ireland: Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn).

A distinct, laugh-out-loud comedy that feels both universally relatable and deeply personal to creator Lisa McGee, who based the show on her own upbringing in Derry, there might be nothing funnier on Netflix than Derry Girls. Boasting a near-perfect 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show kick-started the careers of its hugely talented young cast, none more so than Coughlan, who has since gone on to star in Netflix’s Bridgerton.
