‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ renewed for season 5 as cast reacts to shocking season 4 finale twist

The verdict is in for Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), but new trials and even bigger trouble loom after “The Lincoln Lawyer” season 4. Netflix renewed the hit legal drama for a fifth season ahead of the show’s season four debut on Feb. 5.

We caught up with the cast, including Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Javon Johnson, Sasha Alexander, and Cobie Smulders, during a screening and panel hosted by A+E Studio on Jan. 28 in honor of the season four premiere, where they teased the fallout from a shocking finale.

“The Lincoln Lawyer” cast talk season 4 finale and teases season 5 expectations.
This season flips the script for Mickey, who finds himself arrested and forced to defend himself against a murder charge. Garcia-Rulfo described the emotional weight of moving from defense attorney to defendant.

“Every time I read it was very emotional, and it just feels heavier,” Garcia-Rulfo told Pause/Rewind entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno. “As an actor, I’m drawn to that heaviness because the other seasons were like this guy, you know, ‘I can do everything’ and this one, you can see he’s battling for his life.”

That struggle, he said, is what keeps audiences invested. When asked who he’d trust to defend him in real life, Garcia-Rulfo didn’t hesitate. “I guess, for the love that I have for her Maggie, I guess so,” he said of Campbell’s character — a sentiment echoed repeatedly by his co-stars, with much of the cast agreeing Maggie would be their first call.

Season four also introduces a pivotal new character. Smulders joins the series as Allison, a mysterious newcomer whose loyalties remain unclear. “She’s very unknown at the moment,” Smulders said, adding there’s “a big reveal towards the end of the season.” As for the finale, she teased, “I think I give a little shock to the viewer. That’s my job.” Looking ahead, Smulders summed up the next chapter as “a family affair.”

Constance Zimmer, who plays intense prosecutor Dana Berg and exits after season four, admitted she was stunned by the finale herself. “I read that episode and I was like, I’m sorry, what?” Zimmer said, predicting season five will be “personal.”

Raycole emphasized Izzy’s loyalty as Mickey’s world unravels, calling season four “really, really personal” and urging fans to “watch the last 10 minutes.” Her one-word tease for season five: “Dynamic.” Krista Warner highlighted Haley’s emotional growth this season, noting that her character matures significantly amid the chaos surrounding her father, describing what’s next as “suspenseful [and] fun.”

Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez promised Mickey’s troubles are far from over. “It will spin Mickey’s world off in a very personal axis,” Humphrey said, while Rodriguez added that Mickey will be “looking inward a lot” next season. Their final verdicts: “Our most personal season yet,” and “our funniest season yet.”

With season five locked, “The Lincoln Lawyer” is preparing to put Mickey Haller through his toughest trial yet.
