I wondered how long Bridgerton season 3 part 2 would last on the top of Netflix’s Top 10 list, and the answer was just about two weeks, which is significant for just four more episodes added to part 1. But now a new series has taken over, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
This is a seven part documentary following around the audition process and performances of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, the decades-long, very famous squad that cheers doing football games in addition to many other events. I’ve actually watched most of this, well, half-watched as my wife was watching, and it’s pretty good. It reminds me another cheerleading show, Cheer, where it’s very little drama and just a lot of good vibes and the girls supporting each other.
The show has been hovering inside Netflix’s Top 5 for a while now, but it’s gone from #3 to #2 to now #1. It’s unclear if the show is meant to have another season, or if perhaps the show could move on to another team in the future. But given it’s popularity, they probably have something else planned. And Netflix loves its relatively cheap, reality-based shows.
As for the rest of the list, Your Honor still is performing very well, ahead of the much more famous Dexter, its fellow Showtime production. Further down we have Perfect Match, the reality show that previously hit #1, and will no doubt be back for a third season. A new entry on the list is Gangs of Galicia, a Spanish Crime series that has debuted at #6. The Benedict Cumberbatch series Eric never made it to #1, and is currently #7. And as ever if you want to see just how popular Bridgerton is, Queen Charlotte has been on the top 10 list for weeks, currently on #8, despite being a prequel from 2023. That’s staying power.
The end of the list is wrapped up by the final season of Sweet Tooth, which was never #1 but it doesn’t matter because the series is over now. Longtime #1 Dancing for the Devil, the TikTok documentary, is down to #10 now.
We are at the end of June now so it’s time to look ahead to July and what the big offerings might be then. One of the biggest shows will likely be Cobra Kai season 6, its final season, but one that is being split into three parts for annoying reasons. Other than that, it seems to be a lighter month of releases and we’ll just have to keep an eye out for unexpected breakout hits.
