Let’s see how you survive such a late-night marathon!
Based on a post-apocalyptic video game series, Fallout has become one of the best shows of 2024 so far. It’ll be months till we see the next season of this show, but there are still lots of titles that speculate on the possible apocalypse and its aftermath.
Here are 6 movies about the end of the world, picked by Reddit.
1. Children of Men (2006)
First comes Alfonso Cuarón’s dystopian thriller that is set in a society on the brink of collapse after decades of human infertility. It’s quite a dark film, yet perfectly made.
“Every scene is full of the best set design and overall detail,” says @wrongleveeeeeeer.
2. Perfect Sense (2011)
Starring Eva Green and Ewan McGregor, this drama presents quite a curious take on the apocalypse. Here the fictional world is taken over by the epidemic that robs people of their sensory perceptions one by one, and they’re about to lose everything they have.
3. The Road (2009)
This survival movie, on the contrary, doesn’t reveal the cause of the apocalypse that turned a prosperous country into a wasteland. Centering on a man and his son as they’re trying to find safe haven on the coast, it appears to be quite a hard watch.
4. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)
Here comes quite a surprising choice, as it’s not a tense thriller or drama, but rather a romantic dramedy set before an asteroid wipes out life on Earth.
It “has some great comedic scenes with people dealing with impending doom,” as voiced by @dwightnight.
5. The Book Of Eli (2010)
Denzel Washington’s neo-Western follows a man on his trip across a dry wasteland to deliver a copy of a secret book to safety. It’s an action-packed gem that speculates on the consequences of a possible nuclear apocalypse and offers a shocking final twist.
6. 12 Monkeys (1995)
“Best time travel plot ever,” claims @Dugen, and it’s fair enough.
Starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, it follows a convict who is sent back in time to learn the truth about the virus that led to the wild apocalypse and the whole world being devastated.
