Chris Hemsworth and Ryan Reynolds teased on X that they know more than fans do regarding Thor’s brief appearance in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

If Chris Hemsworth knows anything about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s not telling.

After Hemsworth’s superhero character Thor made the most brief of appearances in Ryan Reynolds’ latest movie Deadpool & Wolverine, both Reynolds, 47, and Hemsworth, 40, are teasing fans on X that they know more details regarding Marvel’s future.

“I know why Thor was crying. I can’t unknow it,” Reynolds wrote in one post on Wednesday, July 31, to which Hemsworth replied the next day: “I can keep secrets too 🤫.”

The moment from Deadpool & Wolverine in question comes early in the movie, after Reynolds’ Deadpool is summoned by Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Paradox and is briefly shown glimpses at a theoretical future for the Avengers should Deadpool join the MCU. In one humorous moment, Deadpool watches a video showing an emotional Thor holding Deadpool and crying.

Marvel Studios began publicly charting the course ahead for future Avengers titles at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, when the studio revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will rejoin the series to play villain Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom. The next two Avengers films, now titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, are expected in theaters in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

Hemsworth last reprised his role as Thor in 2022’s Love and Thunder. He has not yet confirmed when or if he will play the character again, though he told ComicBook.com he is waiting to hear more details from the studio.

“I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe and if there’s more to come then I’m excited about it. Nothing official yet,” he told the outlet. “I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and, and waiting for the news to see, let’s see what happens. But, you know, I love it.”

While the world awaits further details regarding the Avengers’ future, Deadpool & Wolverine proved the largest R-rated box office opening of all time upon its July 26 release. The movie also featured a cameo from another Avenger in Chris Evans, who surprised fans by briefly reprising his role from the 2000s-era Fantastic Four movies.
