Arrest made in deadly New Year’s Day shooting at Pinkhouse Dallas after-hours club
Dallas police arrested 24-year-old Dameian Roberson in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting at Pinkhouse Dallas that killed local rapper Zeethewizard.
One of the victims injured in a New Year’s Day shooting at a Dallas after-hours club was identified as Zee Cannon, who is better known as rapper Zeethewizard.
DALLAS — Dallas police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly New Year’s Day shooting at a Dallas after-hours club that left one person dead and four others injured.
Officers were called to Pinkhouse Dallas around 3:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, near Empire Central Drive and the I-35E frontage road, where they found multiple people shot.
Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) took five victims to a local hospital, with one of them in critical condition. Family members later identified one of those victims who died on Jan. 5 as Zec’qurie Cannon Grant Fields, a Dallas rapper known professionally as Zeethewizard.
On Jan. 20, the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 24-year-old Dameian Roberson in connection with the shooting. DPD said Roberson is charged with murder.
Dallas police said an “altercation” broke out at the grand opening of a new Northwest Dallas after-hours club called Pinkhouse Dallas.
Zeethewizard had been booked to perform at the club on New Year’s as part of its grand opening celebrations. According to his family, he took to the stage shortly before midnight and played to a crowd that included members of his family. After his family left, Fields remained at the club to continue celebrating the holiday. Before arriving at home, however, his family said they received calls about the shooting and immediately returned to the club-turned-crime-scene.
A close collaborator of platinum record-selling Dallas rapper BigXThaPlug, Fields was part of the “New Dallas” movement, a growing group of young area rappers who are focused on unity and positivity through music and spurning the mindset that have divided the scene in the past.
Police have not released additional information about Roberson’s arrest, and they have not detailed what led up to the shooting.
