The era of never-ending sequels has just gone too far.
That’s the last thing you may have ever expected to hear, yet here it is. With a whole myriad of sequels coming to the theaters in the following years, one more has just joined the list as Disney has made it official about its plans to bring Runway’s harsh editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley back to the screen in The Devil Wears Prada ’s upcoming sequel.
Initially released back in 2006, the dramedy starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep is to this day one of the most beloved movies among cinema fans across the world. But the seemingly exciting news about the story’s revival wasn’t met with that much enthusiasm.
According to Variety’s reports, not a single original cast member has so far been confirmed for reprising their roles. But the future sequel is rumored to take a closer look at Miranda during the most challenging period for her magazine sometime later after The Devil Wears Prada’s events, when the world sees a rapid decline of the traditional magazine’s popularity.
Additionally, Meryl Streep’s obstinate businesswoman will face an even bigger obstacle created by her former assistant Emily, in the original movie portrayed by Emily Blunt. She will now have a higher position as an executive for a luxury group which potentially can give Miranda a chance to save her magazine.

It didn’t take long for social media users to react to the breaking news, and the overall opinion might be far from what Disney actually expected to hear.
Most of The Devil Wears Prada’s fans agreed that the beloved movie had never even needed a sequel in the first place.
According to them, the storyline was pretty clear and an attempt to let it go further now had much more chances to ruin it all for those who had been finding their own comfort in the competitive drama for the past 18 years.

However, others also pointed out the lack of any possible participation of Anne Hathaway’s Andy in the main storyline which would seemingly put its focus on Miranda and Emily. A few comments dwelling on this detail eventually drew attention of many other users who stated that they wouldn’t even give the upcoming movie a chance in this case.
“Anne is the heartbeat of the film. TDWP worked so well because she was the main character. Revolving the story around Meryl and Emily’s characters is risky,” said Redditor sayanythinglove.
No more details about The Devil Wears Prada’s sequel have been shared yet, but the chances to get more updates in the upcoming months are pretty high since this is probably what Disney will prioritize in its release schedule for future years.
