A character from the Lord of the Rings series was cut from the final film, but was included in the extended edition – and fans were left ‘disturbed’ by the ‘freakish’ character

Fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy were left shocked after discovering a ‘disturbing’ scene from the final film, The Return of the King, that was cut from the theatrical release. In a world filled with giant spiders, orcs, goblins, and trolls, it’s not surprising that some characters could be nightmare-inducing.

One such character, who was set to appear in Return of the King, would certainly have caused sleepless nights if he had made it to the big screen. However, for reasons unknown, director Peter Jackson decided to exclude his interpretation of this JRR Tolkien character from the Hollywood version.

This decision left some movie buffs questioning why it was removed, considering how well-executed the character was. Despite being cut from the cinema release, the character was included in the extended edition, allowing fans to see the character in all its terrifying glory.

In the Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Jackson introduces us to a character known as the Mouth of Sauron, who truly lives up to his name. All teeth and terror, he is depicted as one of Sauron’s most loyal servants, acting as his envoy, reports the Irish Star.

The character served as the Lieutenant of the Tower of Barad-dur during the War of the Ring. Over time, his real name became lost, unknown even to himself.

He was portrayed as an evil man of tall stature, dressed in black robes and a towering black helmet.

The moment Aragorn and company rock up to the Black Gate and encounter a certain ghastly figure, it’s a scene of both revulsion and allure. This character, flaunting Frodo’s Elvish mithril coat as if he’s won the war, taunts both Aragorn and Gandalf with eerie pride.

Movie buffs were ecstatic to witness this sinister individual in action, taking to social media platforms, like the former Twitter, now known as X, to express their views.

A fan tweeted out, “The Mouth of Sauron is so delightfully disturbing and malevolent. Plus huge props to makeup and wardrobe for putting this guy together.”

Another voiced their unease with “The mouth of Sauron is disturbing AF.”

Meanwhile, someone else highlighted the scene’s edgy atmosphere: “It’s a freakish and suspenseful scene that I can’t imagine why was originally cut.”

And another viewer noted, “Tense at the sight of the mouth of Sauron, disgusting disturbing figure of darkness.”
